this play was written from 1591-1595 and was supposedly inspired by a poem by Arthur Brooke.

the strange fact behind the famous romeo and juliet scene is that the word "balcony" never appeared in his play and some think shakespeare didn't even know what a balcony was. However in Verona, Italy where the play was based there is actually a balcony resemble a very similar one to the one depicted in the play.

Some believe Shakespeare used Hamlet as a metaphor to highlight the tensions that existed and arose during the 'English Reformation' that delved into whether Catholics were legitimate or the protestant. Some say Shakespeare plagiarised another play called 'Ur-Hamlet'. Also Shakespeare may have been driven by the demised of his eleven year old son. Hamnet. Who was Shakespeare's only male child and his untimely passing away at such a young age. Left the father in a state of despair and in this moment he had the idea of writing Hamlet.

Tempest was the last play written entirely by Shakespeare and also was the only play that didn't have an original source as he created the whole play. the prime themes demonstrated in Tempest are forgiveness and repentance. Antonio, his brother, wronged him by dethroning and banishing some twelve years ago. The forgiveness given by Prospero is Christian value which Shakespeare praises in his life

shakespeare wrote macbeth in 1606. it is important to understand the political context in which it was written as that is the main key theme of the play- which is that excessive ambitions will have terrible consequences. macbeth was written the year after the gunpowder plot of 1605. the play was written for the theater during the reign of two monarchs, Queen Elizabeth the first and King james the first. the plays he wrote during their reign are often to embody the general happy, confident and often optimistic mood of the elizabethans. however those he wrote during james reign such as macbeth are darker, reflecting the insecurities of the jacobean period.
