"Smoky Mountain National Park" was the topic I chose to search for while working on this assignment.  I have a future project that will need to be completed for my Geology of National Parks class, and I thought what better time to see what information I could find on it!!!

"My Review of the Databases"
I noticed that many of the search results were the same between the 3.  Explora Libraries seemed to have a few different ones though.  The Science Reference Center returned the fewest results, which surprised me.  My favorite of the 3, and the one I would probably turn to the most, would be the Search Multiple Database.  I was given the opportunity to search whatever databases I wanted at the same time, and in return ended up with thousands of results.  Not only that, but there were related images, and a reference shelf that the other 2 did not have.

🔷  It's ok if you don't know what your end goal(s) will be before starting college.

🔷  You need passion to succeed in
college.

🔷  Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Passion:
-  Intrinsic motivators include; interest, desire to learn, and enjoyment of a subject.
-  Extrinsic motivators are rewards for higher achievement.
*** I found that I am intrinsically motivated.  I'm not worried about getting the best grades in the class, as long as I learn new things and I'm not struggling to the point I become stressed and want to just quit, I'll remain being motivated to get my degree!

🔷 You need to be willing to trade off something to go to college.  This is known as Opportunity Cost.
*  For me, it's trading time.  I'm giving up
   a lot of my free time, and even some of
   the time I usually give to my kids, to go
 to school.

For anyone thinking about going to college, I would definitely make sure that you have that passion and motivation to go.  It is a huge commitment and you need to be able to give up a lot of your time.
If you are someone that has not been in school for a long time, my advice would be to spend some time brushing up on your skills.  Find and take a refresher course.  Learn about computer programs and some of the terminology used.  I thought that I was pretty prepared to go back to school, and now I'm wishing that I had taken the time to learn a few things before I started.  It has been somewhat of a battle the 1st week, and it's taking me a little longer to figure things out, but I have that passion to learn.  I know that I will work hard so that I can succeed!

One of the resources at CLC, that I need to look into further, is the Veteran's Resource Center.  I was not a Veteran, but because my husband was, and died from his service connected disability, I know that I am able to take full advantage of this resource.
I briefly met Theresa Harsha last December, while helping with the Homeless Heroes 5K that is sponsored by CLC, and put on by the Brainerd Jaycees.  At that time, I hadn't fully made the decision to go back to school, so I didn't talk to her about it.  doing this project reminded me that I need to contact her!
I have heard that there are many different ways that the Veteran's Resource Center helps out students, and I'm glad that it is there if I need it!
