However, the Court voted against Scott and concluded that he did not have the right to sue because he wasn't an American citizen. Also, they believed that the Missouri Compromise was not constitutional.

They disagreed on the Dred Scott decision. Lincoln believed that what happened was immoral; oppositely, Douglas thought that the situation was resolved. Even though Lincoln lost, the debate helped him gain recognition.
