         <description><![CDATA[<div>A new three-dimensional view of Antarctica shows off the southernmost continent in all of its rugged glory. CryoSat uses radar altimetry to measure ice-sheet thickness at the North and South poles. This method involves beaming radio waves toward the ground from a satellite and measuring the time it takes for the reflected waves to bounce back. The measurements are useful to scientists who are trying to understand changes in the Antarctic ice sheet, including where increased snowfall is causing accumulating ice and where melting and iceberg calving are causing ice losses.The data from East Antarctica has been hard to interpret, with some research finding that the reigon was adding ice because of increased snowfall.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Phosphorus, along with nitrogen and carbon, is crucial to the survival of life on Earth. It is supplied to plants as bedrock is broken down into soil over time. Researchers have considered the granite formations of the Sierra Nevada to be limited in phosphorus.</h1><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>yes, if the parameters are right. For instance, a wave on a beach can flow uphill, even if it's for just a moment. Water in a siphon can flow uphill too, as can a puddle of water if it's moving up a dry paper towel dipped in it. Waves, tides, and tsunamis  can cause water to go against gravity. The energy and forces produced by these natural phenomena can push water upward, allowing it to naturally rise into a wave or run up a shoreline. There's a river that flows uphill beneath one of Antarctica's ice sheets, according to Robin Bell, a professor of geophysics at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in New York.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Big ice ages account for about 25 percent of Earth's past billion years, said Michael Sandstrom, a doctoral student in paleoclimate at Columbia University in New York City. The five major ice ages in the paleo record include the Huronian glaciation (2.4 billion to 2.1 billion years ago), the Cryogenian glaciation (720 million to 635 million years ago), the Andean-Saharan glaciation (450 million to 420 million years ago), the Late Paleozoic ice age (335 million to 260 million years ago) and the Quaternary glaciation (2.7 million years ago to present). <br>This is how the 100,000-year cycle works: Ice sheets grow for about 90,000 years and then take about 10,000 years to collapse during warmer periods. Then, the process repeats itself. Given that the last ice age ended about 11,700 years ago, isn't it time for Earth to get icy again?<br><br></div>]]></description>

The basketball legend announced that the Earth is flat, saying that when he drives from Florida to California, "it's flat to me. <br>In addition, gravity explains why Earth and the other planets are round. Mass attracts other mass, and the more matter a forming planet attracts, the stronger its gravitational pull toward the center becomes. A sphere is the natural outcome of these forces. On a side note, if you fell through the Earth it would take 48 minutes and 12 seconds to reach the other end, Live Science reported. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An ethereal blue light riding the waves along a beach in Tasmania may be enchanting, but it's actually a signal that the bay may be in danger. That's because the eerie glow comes from a bloom of bioluminescent algae that are known to destabilize marine food webs, according to news reports.&nbsp; The algae aren't toxic to people, though they may cause skin irritation to some who swim in their waters. However, they can be harmful to the greater ecosystem. These <em>N. scintillans</em> blooms displaced microscopic algae, known as diatoms, to become the lowest link in the food web,&nbsp; Live Science reported. This change at the food chain's base can alter the entire food web, even disturbing the larger fish that people eat, the researchers said.&nbsp; It remains to be seen how the current bloom will affect Preservation Bay, but researchers are keeping an eye on it. Other people have visited the bay to catch a glimpse of its iridescent light.</div>]]></description>
