They're expected to be models so what is it showing people when they behave like this? Support from the people you love make you work harder towards your goal that you want to accomplish. In article number one, about the cross country coach, he wrote some pretty degrading comments about the players, and who they wanted support from. He called them names, and it was as if he didn't care how they felt, he just cared that they listened and do what they were "supposed" to do. Abuse can actually cause someone to shut down and not want to do anything. There can be a multitude of reasons, one being for fear that they (the victim) will get in big trouble. Not everyone wants to participate in school games and people definitely don't want a coach who abuses their players.
