Because Kensuke was not feeling confident without Michael with him, and thus didn’t want to leave the peaceful island. Also, even if Kensuke left the island, it would be really hard or not to be able to find his relatives, wife and child. Also, no one would recognise or to make sure it is true that it’s the real Kensuke. Going to Japan would almost be meaningless without the things or people he loves. Also, with the company of animals, a perfect house and a peaceful island, why not stay there? Comparing the killer men and a different Japan, Kensuke of course chose living closer to the killer men and Kensuke’s mostly peaceful life.

I believe it was because of the people who killed the one of the orangutans, and that made Kensuke think that he needed to protect this island and the orangutans, so he changed his mind of leaving.

Kensuke have a strong relationship to the orangutans and chimpanzees, he wants to protect them in the chapter ‘ Killer Man Comes’ from poachers that try to hunt down the orangutans and chimpanzees.

I guess it is because Kensuke was afraid that the bunch of killermen trying to kill the Orangutans. However, Kensuke didn’t want to leave the Orangutans in danger so he decided to stay and protect them.

I think it’s because he didn’t want to leave his animal friends on this island. He’s close with them and is also treating all of the animals like orangutans as family. He wanted to stay to be with them and also protect them. The another possible reason is maybe he still thinks that humans are cruel and not nice since the another human he had just currently seen is the killerman. The killerman might have made Kensuke think humans out there in the city are still cruel.

I think it’s because Kensuke wanted to protect the orangutans. He thought that if he left the island, the ‘killer men’ might come back to kill the orangutans again and Kensuke wouldn’t be there to protect them.

I think he changed his mind because he wanted to continue protecting the orangutans. They recently had an encounter with the killer men, almost fatal, but they managed to survive.

Another possibility is that he didn’t want to go back to face the world, after experiencing world war 2. His hometown was probably destroyed after the bombing, and by the time he goes back to Nagasaki, most likely no one remembers him, and he would have a hard time adapting to a new lifestyle

Kensuke thought that his wife and son must already be dead. He also said that even under the circumstance that they were alive, many things have changed over the years, they wouldn’t get along well. Therefore, he decided it was best if he didn’t leave the island and stayed there at peace.

I think it's because Kensuke doesn't think he would be able to find his family and he needs to take care of the animals there just in case the killermen go to his island again to kill more orangutans, thus the people he knew mostly died already, so it's not so convincing to go back to Japan or maybe to Micheal's place

After Kensuke protected the orangutans, he believed that humans were bad, and refused to meet anymore of them. This is likely a fallacy by Kensuke, as he only met/remembered the Killermen and other bad examples. This is called Hasty generalization. Also, he must protect the orangutans, and believed that humanity was doomed and that he has no family.

I think this is because at first, Kensuke want to leave the island with Michael. However, some killer man wants to kill the animals on the Island and Kensuke wants to protect them. Also, he thought most of his relatives were dead already during the Second World War . Therefore, Kensuke think staying in the island is the best choice for his rest of his life.
