The UBF was a black power organization founded in the late sixties in Brooklyn by David Mills. The goal of the organization was to advance black rights by organizing the community to protest racist laws. They were officially recognized in 1980 when they merged with fifty other black power organizations. They used this power to protect black schools, and do national campaigns against genocide. While the organization has declined in membership and activity over the years, it still exists to this day.

Nina Simone

Nina Simone was born as Eunice Kathleen Waymon in 1933. Her home town, Tyron North Carolina, has always been supportive of her musical talent. She started playing piano at only three years old, and had her first formal instructor at six. She credited her instructor, Muriel Massinovitch, as her reason for devoting her life to music. When she grew up, she chose to go to Julliard for a year, and then dropped out to go to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, she flunked the recital, and chose to go directly into music. Luckily she succeeded into the woman we know today.

Black Panther Party

The Black Panther Party for self defense was founded in 1966 by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. They met the year before in Merritt College, Oakland California, where they bonded over the budding concept of Black Nationalism. Together they developed the Ten Point Program, which outlined their demands to uplift the African American people.

"1. We Want Freedom.

2. We Want Full Employment for Our People.

3. We Want An End to the Robbery By the Capitalists of Our Black Community.

4. We Want Decent Housing Fit For The Shelter of Human Beings.

5. We Want Education That Teaches Us Our True History And Our Role in the Present-Day Society.

6. We Want All Black Men To Be Exempt From Military Service.

7. We Want An Immediate End to Police Brutality and the Murder of Black People.

8. We Want Freedom For All Black Men Held in Federal, State, County and City Prisons and Jails.

9. We Want All Black People To Be Tried In Court By A Jury Of Their Peer Group Or People From Their Black Communities.

10. We Want Land, Bread, Housing, Education, Clothing, Justice And Peace."

These commandments have led the BPP in the pursuit of human rights for decades, bringing respect and power to the Black community.

Sly and the Family Stone

Sly and the Family Stone was formed in 1966 by Epic Records. The band consisted of Sly's parents, K.C and Alpha Stewart, their three children, Sylvester (Sly), Rose, and Freddie. They were accompanied by Greg Errico, Cynthia Robinson, Jerry Martini, and Larry Graham. The group's first album, Stand, contained their first hit, Everyday People. The song topped the pop charts and the R&B charts, and stayed in the charts for two years after release. Their next two albums crushed the charts as well, setting records for an interracial and coed band. Their signature combination of soul, pop, and psychedelic rock still permeates the music scene today.

Flo Milli

Flo Milli, born as Tamia Monique Carter, was born in the deep south of Mobile Alabama. She was interested in music from an early age, writing her first song at nine years old and started rapping at eleven. After watching Nicki Minaj on television, she started writing songs based on her experiences in high school. She released her first song "No Hook" in 2015 at only 15 years old. Three years later, she released her single "Beef Flomix", which rocketed to fame on TikTok, making number two on Spotify's top 50 a year later. She continued her fame, signing a record label and releasing her first mixtape, "Ho Why Is You Here?" in 2020. The track was critically acclaimed, making placement on Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time list in 2022. She's made two more albums since then, both finding success. Currently, she's six months pregnant with her first child, and is preparing to go on tour.

Reverend Herbert Daughtry

Reverand Herbert Daughtry was born in Savannah Georgia in 1931. His family was heavily religious, but his parents divorced when he was one year old. When he was eleven, he was moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he struggled to fit in with his peers. His behavior took a turn for the worse, becoming disruptive in school, and eventually turning to drugs and crime. He became addicted to heroin and gambling, using robbery to fuel his addictions. He joined the army hoping to get clean, but remained an addict and was discharged in only a year. He continued a life of crime when he got out. However, this time his crimes caught up with him, and he was convicted of armed robbery and assault. While incarcerated, he turned to Christianity and consequently turned his life around. When released, he immediately became a pastor in his local church, and was promoted to Reverend a year later. He used his influence to help form the United Black Front, where he committed the rest of his life to activism and charity.

1971 San Quentin Prison Riot

In San Quentin prison in 1971, George Jackson had a private meeting with his lawyer. Little did the guards know that his lawyer had given him a pistol, which he hid under a gifted wig. George took a guard at gun point, and used him to unlock the cells of twenty plus prisoners. The prison quickly erupted into a riot which only lasted thirty three minutes, but left six guards and twenty six inmates dead. The majority of inmate deaths were due to the fighting between rival gangs, the Black Guerilla Family and the Mexican Mafia. However, the legal system could only identify six people involved, who have been nicknamed the San Quentin Six. It consisted of Fleeta Drumgo, David Johnson, Hugo Pinell, Johnny Spain, Luis Talamantez, and Willie Tate. They all committed violent crimes during the riot for one reason or another, and their court cases dragged out for years.

Angela Yvonne Davis

Angela Yvonne Davis was in born in Birmingham Alabama in 1944. Her family lived in the dynamite hill district, named for the fact that white supremacists frequently bombed the area to drive out colored families. In her early life, she participated in church groups, girl scouts, and the American Friends Service Committee, all of which she credited to her interest in political activism. Her educational career is astounding, she has three Doctorates, a Masters, and a Bachelors. She was about to complete her PhD, but the FBI confiscated her work. She dedicated her life to philosophy and activism, teaching and giving speeches across the world. Not everyone liked her activism though, as she taught communist and socialist ideals, and associated with the Black Panther Party. She was repeatedly fired from her jobs, and the FBI attempted to convict her. She was held in prison for over a year before being acquitted of all charges.
