Elephants are fascinating animals that live in large family groups. The leader of the group is usually the oldest female elephant, called the matriarch. She teaches the young elephants important skills like finding food and water. Baby elephants stay close to their mothers for many years. They use their long trunks to drink water, grab food, and even give each other friendly 'hugs'! These intelligent animals can remember their family members for many years, even if they are separated. Elephants are also excellent swimmers and love to play in the water to stay cool on hot days.
