Francoise tells Art that she converted to make Vladek happy because she was not Jewish.Artie wished he had been in Auschwitz so he could have experienced it. Mala has left Vladek with some of they money but Vladek is happy. Vladek has started to help a Kapo learn English and has started to get special treatments. Vladek doesn't know what happen to Mandelbaum after he was sent to work and never comes back. Artie doesn't feel guilty about his brother Richieu. The Polish priest tells Vladek that he will come out of the war live because of his number that was given to him. Mandelbaum is Vladek friend that has become a mess since he has enter the camp because he was once rich but they took everything from him and he is wearing big and baggy cloths and shoes. Vladek is becoming more nice to people and he shows this by telling Artie about the time he won bingo and gave the prize to this young lady that looked sad. Another thing that changed about Vladek is that he is starting to feel lonely and he wants Artie and his wife to stay with him and not leave him. The symbolic of the names "Mauschwitz" is that Art uses the letter M to represent the mice(Jews)  and the word "Catskills" represent all the Nazi's.
 In chapter two Artie portrays himself as a author that is not strong enough mentally to finish the book. This is important because we get to see how the death of his father is taking a troll on him even when he wasn't the perfect son to Vladek. As Artie is talking we see that he thinks his dad was maybe sad about surviving Auschwitz and he hasn't even needed to survive because he grew up in Rego Park. Artie is believing that some people were lucky because everything was random and not by who they were. In the end Artie goes back to finishing the book. Vladek tells that it was so hard to live in the camp because the Jews were barely giving any food to eat in order to survive the camp. Vladek had jump from many different jobs in the camp in order to survive. Vladek and Anja was able to reconnect one time during the war when he was a tin men sent the women camp to fix their roofs. Both of them communicated by letters during the war to inform each other their were still alive.The most ironic thing about the last few panels of this chapter we learned more about the camp and how most tragic it bought to people for Vladek to be living in a peaceful place for him to have nightmare about Auschwitz.
In chapter three Vladek keeps trying to pack stuff for Artie take with him when he leaves and it makes Artie snap at him about it. Vladek feels that they should have just waited a little longer. Vladek and a couple other people made a plan to escape when they were leaving Auschwitz but it didn't work.The Jews kept moving to different camps and places but the weak was shot. Vladek was able to get on a train to Switzerland even though he was sick and was not able to move much. He feels this way because time in Auschwitz was almost over. if they waited only a week they could have still been alive. Vladek was able to survive by hanging his blanket that he had on the hooks in the cattle car to stop him from getting stomped on and for water and food he ate snow in order to keep him alive. Vladek attitudes towards colored people disgusted Franciose. I think Spiegelman included this incidents because it shows us that Vladek has become just like the Nazi during the war. Saying that all colored people steals a stereotype that Vladek thinks is true for everyone that is colored jut like when the Nazi thought all the Jews were animals and were the cause of the war. For Vladek to do this its separates him from other Jews that have been through the same as him but he is trying to take it out on people of different races, It shows what the war can do to people that have been hurt by racism. In MAUS II in chapter one title page we can see a Jew in striped pajama just like in the book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and t made an reference to that book. MAUS is really unquie from other works because we have the story told to us in a comic book view that shows us image that Vladek had described to him as he was writing MAUS and that we get the insight of what he went through when he talked to his father about his past. ]]> 2019-03-29 07:03:53 UTC https://padlet.com/SerenityGoudeau00/uq20zzkks3pc/wish/346429979 SerenityGoudeau00 https://padlet.com/SerenityGoudeau00/uq20zzkks3pc/wish/350134112  In chapter 4 the title page foreshadows the end of the war because the word saved is being used to tell us that Vladek is going to be saved from the camps like the other Jews. the image tells us that Vladek is no longer in the striped pajamas that was given to the Jews during the Holocaust so its tells us that the Holocaust is over. The animal that was used for the Americans is dogs. I think the use of dogs as american and Germans as cats shows us the war between the Germans and Americans during the Holocaust. It can also represent that the dogs has to chase away the cats to save the mice and it helps tell the story more because of the use of cat's and dog's not getting along. Vladek catches up with an old friend name Shivek when they were marching. The Jews kept walking but they were always caught by German officers. Shivek and Vladek was able to get away and find a place to hid that had milk,food, and cloths for them to wear. They both were found by the Americans with no Germans in site but they started to work for them but the Americans was nice to them. Vladek tells Artie the story of his family and who all died and survived. The symbolism of the scattering pages is to tell us that all of the family members that have died is just a memory for Vladek to have as they are no longer alive because they died in the war.
In chapter five the word second honeymoon it might foreshadow the death of Vladek as in him going to heaven because based off the image we can see that a plane is taking off to the sky and this makes me think of death since Vladek health is not the best. This tells us that Vladek is still living through the pain of the Holocaust and he can't leave it behind because its a part of him that he has gone there for the longest time and he lost so many people so all that he can do is remember that time and not so much the present. Vladek was in the hospital because he had water in his lungs but he wants to go to his own doctors in N.Y because he doesn't trust the doctors at St. Francis so Artie fly's out to Florida to get Vladek. Vladek did not want to fly at first and kept making excuses but he eventually gets on the plane back home with Mala and Artie. When they go to the hospital the doctors did not keep him even though Vladek was really getting sick. Artie visit his father again for one last time to finish the story. Vladek is not able to remember things from the day before but he still remembers the Holocaust. MAUS I and II: A Survivor's Tale by Art Spiegelman was both written in 1986 and 1991. Both books complete the short series of MAUS.

A tale of a surviving the Holocaust.

I loved the use of drawings and the animals representing different races and the symbolizing of the animals. I felt that it need more but it still was able to tell the story and the importance of it.

I would recommend this book its a good read and its different from the others story about the Holocaust.
