Near the beginning of Part 3, it is said that Beatty was okay with dying. Although an opinion from Montag, I really believe this is true. Montag realizes, "Beatty wanted to die" (Bradbury 122) after not seeing a response when killing him. When you take out the expletives in this song, it applies to this thought very well. Tupac is thinking over his actions and wondering if he'd be welcome in the afterlife, things someone who wanted to die would likely think.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Tha Crossroads

Again, we see that Beatty did want to die. When faced with the threat of certain death, Beatty simply says, "Well, that's one way to get an audience...Go ahead now, you second-hand litterateur, pull the trigger." (Bradbury 119). Shortly after, he says "Hand it over guy" and says this, "with a fixed smile" (Bradbury 119). It is apparent that Beatty doesn't seem to care about the outcome of this exchange. This song is about both contemplation, being at crossroads. and seeing others in the afterlife. If Beatty wanted to die. and we see that he does, he'd have a lot of contemplation in his life, after his decision, he'd be ready to see others in the afterlife. This song also has a very mellow tone, much like Beatty throughout the story. This song embodies Beatty well.

During part 2, Beatty is very suspicious of Montag. He knows in his mind that Montag took a book. This song is about being watched, Beatty watches Montag throughout the part. This is shown when Beatty says, "Sweet food of sweetly uttered knowledge.. words are like leaves and where they are most absent, much fruit of the sense beneath is rarely found. What do you think of that, Montag?" (Bradbury 105/106). We see the hints that Beatty knows what Montag is doing.

At the end of Part 2, it is revealed that the firemen are heading towards Montag's house. Beatty expresses that he knows what Montag has done. While driving to Montag's house, Beatty asks. " Something the matter, Montag?" (Bradbury 110). This song is about venting after someone is lied to after everything. Without the lines about love, this song fits perfectly with Beatty.

Although it seems literal, this song does demonstrate his ideas in this Part. Beatty sees fire as a way to destroy things and make the world better. This is seen in the lyric "We, we don't have to worry 'bout nothin', Cause we got the fire, ". The fire is used to extinguish imagination and "threats". Beatty thinks "A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it." He says this because he believes the knowledge you gain from books is harmful.

Even though this song is about love, it does apply to Beatty surprisingly well. Near the end of part 1, we see that Beatty has been putting up a front, he has questioned the system. He knows about books. Beatty says, "Well, Montag, take my word for it, I've had to reas a few in my time, to know what I was about, and the books say nothing!" (Bradbury 62) He says this, even though he knows about literature.
