We have seen a dramatic uptick in both aggressive and apathetic student behavior since returning to school post-pandemic, but so far, none of the steps taken by our administration to resolve these issues have made a significant impact. There has of late been much public outcry from parents and some teachers that we should begin enforcing more punitive measures on students, instead of investigating and applying restorative practices. This is a starting point for me to think about how I can support teachers who are working to create more culturally responsive and sustaining classrooms.
