I was born this way! LOL
Since I can remember I always wanted a career that would allow me to work with children. For a moment, I thought that meant I would be a pediatrician. I soon learned I enjoyed helping others learn. At the age of 5 I became a big sister and I gain a "student" and I became a teacher in my eyes.

Teaching was actually never the plan. I majored in Public Relations and the plan was to work at a fancy PR firm in NYC or back up was to go into Radio as I minored in broadcasting. All of my college experience was tailored to place me in that line of work including my internship and experience from working at the University newspaper. After graduating college and taking a position at a magazine I came to realize that I was not genuinely happy and resigned. I traveled throughout Central America and upon returning took a teaching job with the idea of doing it for 3 months tops! I quickly found a hidden passion I never knew existed within me. Two master degrees in education, positions as a 9th- 12 grade English and Spanish teacher, various leadership positions later I came to realize this was God's plan all along.

I decided to become a teacher my senior year of college. I realized that happiness was more important than job titles and being super rich. I have always been teaching since I was a tutor my sophomore year. I have always found that I was good at communicating with my students and helping them feel comfortable to ask questions and "look wrong." Teaching is a path that allows me to achieve my life goal, which is to be influential in the world. I felt that I was limited by myself, so I felt that I could expand my influence by being a teacher and helping students!

I trace my interest in teaching back to primarily senior year of high school. I was a link crew leader an took great pride in hosting after school tutoring. I wasn't successful. I had only 2 students that came to my sessions and 1 of them left partway through. The student that stayed got a D+ in her math class which she had previously received an F. Still not enough to pass, but she left saying she would get it next year.

I thought in becoming an educator when I was a math tutor in Cerritos College. I was focused more in going to medical school back then, but through tutoring, I found my niche in education. It felt more natural for me rather than healthcare.

Teaching was not always my first choice. I was into speech and language pathology, but my experience in SDC high school classrooms inspired me to help those students who were giving up in school. Every student deserves a chance to succeed. I became a teacher to give that chance to students and help them succeed.

I love learning and accidentally discovered that I also like teaching. I've had a variety of experiences both academically and professionally and teaching is a great way for me to put all of those strengths to use. I have also found it incredibly rewarding to see students grow and to be an important part of that process.

From the first time I took P.E. in middle school I always thought it would be a job I would love and be great at. Once I finished school I decided I really wanted to work with kids and help them any way I could. Especially staying active when areas can sometimes be restrictive. I also wanted to help prepare them to succeed in college/after high school.
