I chose this as my strongest reason because it’s backed by cognitive psychologist Keith Oatley that people who read fiction may improve their social skills each time they open a novel because we subconsciously begin to align ourselves with the characters and imagine ourselves as them.

  • I've decided to do my walking research in my hometown of Southold. What makes this place different is my town is very quiet due to the majority population being retirees and wealthy people. There is a small shopping centre with a grocery store about a mile away but the larger franchises such as Target or Walmart are 15 miles away. There is a small but increasing immigrant population especially in the summertime when there is more work. There are little unspoken rules but it ties into the community wellbeing like cleaning up after yourself.
