The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Gender Stratification is men vs. women in politics. It's uncommon to see women in leadership positions. There is yet to be a female president in office. Women that are in politics have to answer to a different set of standards. I chose this picture of Senator Karen Hill who resigned recently because of the inequal treatment she was given for her mistakes versus the way a male senator would have been treated.

Economic status quo means that the economy is not progressing or improving. The upper class remains wealthy, while the lower/middle class struggle to make ends meet and remain poor. I chose this image of an airline flight because of the two classes that are available to fly in-the economy class and first class. Flying first class for passengers is separated by a wall for those who can afford to pay more money and sit in luxury seats while being served better food & drinks versus sitting in economy which is more affordable and you receive standard service rather than upgraded service due to monetary & class differences. Status quo is where one is not able to change their economic position and learn to accept what they aren't able to change.

Poverty is when one is not able to live without some kind of financial assistance. For whatever reasons, they don't have a sufficient income that would help them to acquire living in a comfortable way of life. Someone living in poverty would be considered extremely poor. The image is of a homeless person walking in my town. This connects to poverty because being homeless is considered living in poverty and is not a comfortable way of life.

Privilege is having an advantage over someone or something based on one of those types. I chose this picture because this represents economic privilege.

Glass ceiling is a figure of speech. It is often used to represent some type of minority that is able to break through an invisible barrier. Most commonly, women are used as examples of breaking through the glass ceiling when it comes to employment, or other male dominated types of professions. First thing I thought of when breaking through a glass ceiling was Hillary Clinton. She was the first secretary of state and woman to be nominated as the first woman candidate for presidency.

The main goal is to establish a way so that women are considered equals to men in work, politics, and other social situations.

The definition of a stereotype is an assumption or a negative perception of a particular person or group. It can be as extreme as being prejudice or discriminating. One example of a stereotype is blondes are dumb. Another stereotype is the color blue is representative of boys, and pink is representative of girls. I chose this picture because it's a perfect example of how strong our society stereotypes genders. If you are female, you are automatically expected to be connected to the color pink and be girly. If you are male, you are automatically connected to the color blue and expected to act tough and play with toy trucks.

It is a feeling that arises from a lack of familiarity to a different type of language, society, food, music, or values. It can be most likely expected when visiting a foreign country.
