The discrimination that trans people face in the healthcare system is very unfortunate. Specially to think that healthcare staff also fall in to this, as people who are supposed to take care of all people irrespective of how people are.

I think it's given that in Malaysia, LGBTQ++ face discrimination. And I always thought that they are suffering and can't really make a living in Malaysia.

But through these two interviews, I realize life is not so bad and the community does have avenues to flourish in Malaysia. It gives me hope that the trajectory for them in Malaysia is moving in a positive direction.

Discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ group, especially in the local healthcare and social settings, is an issue that needs to be addressed considering it does pose a risk for poorer physical and mental health outcomes. Healthcare practitioners should be aware of such issues to withhold the ethical principle of beneficence and non-maleficence.

Although the interviewee said our society is becoming more accepting to the LGBTQIA+ communities than before, there is still inherent bias and discrimination in the system, including workforce, healthcare, laws, etc, which is unfair.

It is very eye-opening to hear stories from the LGBTQ community. Knowing that there are NGOs out there who reach out and empower the people of these communities is very comforting and makes me hopeful about the progress of Malaysia in terms of accepting the community and stand against the discrimination. It's very unfortunate to hear the discrimination these communities face in the healthcare system as well. This really goes against what we've been taught throughout as medical students, and that is to never discriminate our patients and to always be non-judgmental in providing our care.

It's nice to get some insight from those in the LGBTQ+ community and pleasant to know that there are NGOs and they have a solid community out there supporting them. Hopefully Malaysians will be more accepting of them and treat them equally as they should :)

It is unfortunate to hear that the LGBTQ+ community still faces discrimination among the healthcare workers in Malaysia even though we are taught to treat all patients equally. Although more and more health professionals are becoming aware of the problems that the community faces, there are still no concrete clinical guidelines that are targeted towards the community's health and specific issues that only their community faces. However, that is an issue to be addressed on a larger scale and what individual health workers can do for now is to be more considerate while asking questions and making them feel welcomed even for small medical concerns.
