Teachers become aware of their inconsistency between their commitment to ensure learning for all students and their lack of a coordinated strategy being used to respond when some students do not learn. It is imperative that we teach the foundations of the skills and make sure the student understands the underlying component of the of the lesson/task. We as teachers also must understand and know exactly what we are teaching before we introduce it to the students, not just "wing it".

Grouping the students into small groups and allowing them to discover new concept together helps each of them learn.

2. Background knowledge is a wonderful tool that can be used throughout all spectrums of education. Background knowledge is what I find myself using each day to create a connection through the language barrier I have with my students when teaching them ESL. Having images on PowerPoints creates opportunities for students to implement background information that is essential to understanding the new words or concepts.

3. Managing expectations is important for creating a positive educational environment. When students are lost and confused their effective filter lowers and causes them to have a negative experience. Need to evaluate and monitor students to identify if the are actually learning and which is the best method for them to learn the material. Knowing the students level of education is helpful in figuring out were they stand. That helps us by identifying what skills and subjects the student needs reinforcement and improvement, so the student can become successful.

- This will be accomplished by collaboration of the teachers working as a team. Each teacher will give their knowledge about the students weaknesses and strengths. Giving ideas in meetings on how will be a good approach on teaching the material.

- Focus and evaluate the results. We can do so by looking at grades of the exams and quizzes at the end of the week to see what is the understanding of the student on the material and if the student actually learned it. Adjust the approach of teaching the material to the students needs.

By doing this we will be able to decipher what works and what adjustment needs to be done to achieve our goals. 2.Teamwork is also very important in and environment in which education is being implemented. By working as a team, we can share ideas and help each other in solving obstacles that might prevent us from reaching our goals. 3.Student learning is also very important this is where we can develop learning strategies. It is important to understand that not all students learn the same way. Sharing ideas and communicating among teachers will help us reach students.

Ensuring that children acquire the information rather than just being taught is a big take away from Mr. DuFour’s article. We need to ensure that we can work together to improve the student-learning process so that our children become well rounded students. We need to create a safe, learning environment where students can be focused on learning the content rather than just teaching to a test, while also fostering collaborations with each other to exchange expertise and analyzing results that come from this collaborative, enriched learning process. When you start to focus on student learning you learn what is working for the children and what is not and adapt to better suit the children’s learning process. As a teacher, you develop new strategies for teaching the kids using different teaching methods ensuring that they understand the content and in turn collectively we reach our teaching goals.

For a student to reach individual goals there are several key points or resources that help in the process. The first one is communication. Communication to talk about the goals of the students, to help the student understand find its strength, establish a plan with coworkers to have the best results and to talk about its background. I think it is important to know a little of them to comprehend their behavior and establish a goal for the student.
Another great key for success is to identify the type of learner the students feel better with. Personally, I try to target as many type of learners as possible in a several types of class delivery. That way nobody as time to disengage during class. By implementing projects, speeches of what they learned, drawings, etc; we can make them feel engaged and wanting to learn anything.
My last essential would be set a goal. Setting goals to student is essential so they can focus on that goal and don't stop until they reach it. This would help them not only in class but in life.

1. I think the article discusses a very important point about teachers not finding collaboration helpful when it comes to teaching, or not finding the time to work as a team. In reality that's what happens for most teachers, but a great way to achieve collaboration and excellent teamwork is to share resources and strategies with their coworkers.
2. Another topic talked about focusing on the student learning rather than the teacher teaching, which is also an important point considering that it is the ultimate teacher's goal that the students improve, and that is when PLC's become useful.
3. Last, accepting that we become part of the problem that we are trying to tackle when we isolate ourselves from our coworkers rather than asking for help and helping others by sharing useful information.

In the article “What Is a Professional Learning Community,” from Richard DuFour, my top three “essentials” takes are creating lifelong learners, vertically and horizontally collaborating with peers, and continue analyzing data. These three essentials skills can bump your teaching to the next level.

Focusing in creating lifelong learners rather than teach will create an environment in your class that will help your students become outstanding members in their communities. Also, will harness their interest in learning all aspect of life without seeing it as a drag. It is important to create a fun but safe environment were students can grow academically and personally.

This essential goes hand by hand with the next essential, vertically and horizontally collaborating with peers. Collaborating across subjects and grade levels further enhance the learning prosses of each student. It will help develop multi-level learning between subject and grade levels. For example, whatever skill the Reading teacher is covering can be use by the Social Studies teacher when implementing the topic that week.

Lastly, what ties everything together is the last essential, continue analyzing data. By constant monitoring data, teachers can track patterns in where students need more help, re-teach, or find another way to implement the material to the students. Also, by monitoring data, teachers can identify personal areas in need of improvement. This way you create a fool proof plan that will help you and your students reach their own potential.

Teaching is the profession that makes all other profession. This creates the need of constant improving and finding the best strategies for your students and yourself. By adopting essential skills like focusing in learning rather than teaching, collaborating with co-workers, and analyzing your data will help you improve these areas.

As an educator, I find collaboration among teachers to be extremely vital because we can learn and use new strategies with our students.

As teachers we share the same goal, student progress. We need to monitor students work habits on a regular basis.

As educators we should always want to expand our horizons by learning from others and implement that information into our goals, "student progress."
