There are many different types of bees. To go along with the bees there are also separate families as well. There are nine different families. All of these bees come from the Apidae family. First, there is the bumblebees. They are black with yellow strips. Bumble bees make their nests in the ground. Their job is to gather pollen and nectar. Second, is carpenter bees. They drill through almost any type of wood. They are blue and black. They make their nests in hard to reach places. Third, are honeybees. They are golden yellow with brown bands. Their job is to produce honey. Last, we have the killer bees. They are golden yellow with dark brown bands. Their job is to gather pollen and nectar. Killer bees build nests in unique places. These are the most common types of bees.

Bees are divided into 3 parts, head, thorax (chest), and abdomen. The head includes their eyes, mouth, and antennae. The thorax includes the wings. The abdomen includes the honey stomach and the stinger. The honey stomach is where they carry their nectar. The bees have 5 eyes, 3 one the top of their head and 2 on the side. Bees have no pupils so they can never focus their eyes. Their antennae is slender and on the top of their head. Their mouth is used to suck water, honey, and pollen. They have 2 thin wings that they use a lot. The stinger is used for self-defense. Bees have hairs all over their body which pollen gets stuck in. Finally, bees must maintain a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit to be able to fly.

Bees are very important but how do they live. First off, bees are made into the world by the queen of the hive. The queen is the only bee who can lay eggs. If the sperm in the queen is released it is a worker bee, if it isn't the bee is a drone. Worker bees do many jobs in their lifetime. Drones mate with the queen bees. When they are born the worker bees bite away the cell 21 days later unlike the drones who wait to be developed. If the colony ever needs a new queen bee they make a larva and grow 5.5 days to make a new queen. If 2 bees hatch at the same time they fight till one dies. When the hive overcrowd they make new queen cells, wax them. And then they leave in a swarm to make a new hive. Bees use pollen and honey as food. Scouts go look for food and tell them where it is in relation to the sun. Predators will kill the bees such as bears, ants, humans, raccoons, skunks, dragonflies, and honeybee mites. That is the stages of a bees life.

Bees depend on their stinger for their only self-defense tool. The glands attached to the sting produce the venom (poison) Bees have different stingers and some might not have a stinger at all. Worker bee's stinger is a straight with barbs. The worker bees die soon after they sting a human. When a worker bee stings the stinger comes out of the bees body. The queen bee has a smooth, curved stinger. The queen bee only uses its stinger to kill other queen bees and when that happens they don't lose their stingers. Drones do not have stingers. Killer bees sting animals and humans because they attack by swarming. Hybrid bees also swarm and can have a very dangerous sting. The bee sting cause sudden pain and can cause swelling. If you get stung scrape the stinger off immediately but don't pinch or squeeze it because it reduces the amount of venom that goes into your body. Some people are so sensitive to bee stings they die right then.

From the book Stung, it talks about bees going extinct on some of the pages and I will tell you what it says. First that there would be no more honey. That honey would become a rare food that is better than gold. Bees pollinate a huge number of the crops, so if bees go extinct there will be no more apples, peaches, vegetables, and lots more. Also a lot of the plants will die with out bees pollinating them. Without plants, animals who eat crops, cows and chickens will have nothing to eat. If they go extinct than we won't have meat of eggs to eat. If we don't have vegetables, fruits, meat, or eggs people worldwide will start starving to death.
