It seems like the culture got some rhythm of its own, which is expressed by music and aswell dancing. Its sad to hear, that it was kinda forbidden for so long, because such rhythms are powered deep down by the heart and is the main source of our creativity. It was very exciting to feel how the music synchronizes the people and bringes them together! What an awesome experience =)

After a ten minute ride we arrived at Kontakaz, a cultural centre near Saint Anne. Monsieur Ferus shows us a lot of traditional rythms wich are related to the slave history. We plaey for nearly 2 hours and everybody gets addicted to the rythms. But then the real magic haoppened: arround 12 o‘clock the kids from the surroundig school arived to get the lunch. They heard the music and at that moment they can’t restist and start to participate: they danced, they join us with some drums and everybody has a good time. What Monsieur Ferus tought us bevor, the kids now show us in real life: How important the music is in the life of the people of Guadeloupe is and how the rythm can connect people.

🪘 🎶 This is my 4th time when I have opportunity to learn to play with drums. The first time was in Sunnerville (France, 2010, Youth in Action project) and I really enjoyed it and I got in love in this style of music. 🥰
But here, in Guadaloupe  🌊 ⛵️🌴, it touched deeper in my heart ❤️, because I got to know more about history of Guadaloupe, more about people here, more about music 🎶 why it was and is important for people who live here and for their past. 🤗
