Ways of looking at history

When writing about historical events, one can look at it from the sea, shore, both, and ideally from above. Typically, history has been recorded from Europeans especially concerning the Americas (sea) but historians today strive for an equal combination. When this is done, we are able to understand what actually happened and why. Dubois, Laurent. “Why Haiti Should Be at the Centre of the Age of Revolution.” Aeon.

Atlantic Freedoms by Laurent Dubois states, "the world was connected by ports, and in many ways ports came to resemble each other. But if it was a connected world, it was also one in which experiences and perspectives were widely divergent." The world is connected by water but that same water is used to conquer one another. Here the experiences are all scary and horrible as slaves are in captivity to be brought to new colonies. We learn about all the great conquests but we don't learn at what cost.
Dubois, Laurent. “Why Haiti Should Be at the Centre of the Age of Revolution.” Aeon.

The Haitian Revolution (1791-1804) was radical in the sense of wanting rights. It has been written in the article, "even more so than France or America." Even in revolutions, diverse nations were not given the credit deserved.
