Within their async. learning slides I indicate on if and when that topic will be discussed in the next small group meeting. I ask them to come prepared with something they learned and a question someone might have. The first time I had minimal students prepared, but students quickly learned that when people come prepared it makes for more interesting group discussion and learning. I always try to include something fun at the end of these academic sync. meetings so kids don't just see the topic of the upcoming zoom and just skip out on it because it's a topic that is more academic.

I am collecting data, finally and can start to assign students to various small groups. Most of my time the past two weeks was devoted to helping individual students with tech issues, how to find things, how to navigate and educate their parents and what my expectations were for them, and why the essential questions are so important, will start to turn my Q and A daily sessions into more targeted small groups.

If it is important information, is it being perceived as important information or just one of a batch of notifications? Just some thoughts I've been considering.

For the blended option we are able to do class meetings in person on in person days. On remote days the teacher does one class meeting at the beginning of the day and end of the day just in case there are students who can't make one or the other. This has worked well. We use this time for questions, to clear up instructions but most importantly just for visiting and community building that way it works better for synchronous.

Everyday I will put a question up on the board, such as " Mindset Monday- All things are difficult, until they are easy. What is one challenge that you hope to overcome this week?" I also do fun questions such as, " Wildlife Wednesday- What is your spirit animal and why". The students enjoy it and we get to know more about one another.

Like Robert said, Face to face small groups are challenging with no space to have a set of students with everything split up. However, a co-worker and I were discussing the use of the develop sessions in iReady to use those as videos for students who need to go over a standard again or needs a different perspective on it. Those videos allow students to slow it down, so using that as a tool during small groups. It also allows you to go back to previous grades so students can get a reminder while walking through the video. An example would be my students who are struggling with volume because they can not remember area that well, can go back a grade and watch the lesson video on area from 4th grade.

While these morning meetings are only "loosely" required, they are still highly encouraged since I use the last remaining minutes of our meeting to discuss our classwork for the day and clarify any questions or misconceptions.

Lisa Hart Teaching Remotely I Love my morning meeting times. We outline the day. Having every student see one another a couple times of day creates continuity and a sense of belonging. We discuss questions and answers. We meet again daily at 12:30. I am doing a read aloud and we can make predictions. We also have an aquarium on my desk with a bright blue Betta and we watch it with the doc cam. Students came up with a name 10 names and voted. Blueberry was selected. Students refer to blueberry as our fish.

My students are messaging a few minutes ahead of our meeting, they are excited to get into our google classroom meet and see me and each other! I honestly think this is the best part of the day :) We talk about the assignments, I ask each student (all 30+ that attend) how they are and if they have any questions. It's amazing...and at times funny! Some of them can't help it--they blurt! They turn their mics on, blurt, and turn their mics off. Feels like being in the classroom with them--and as frustrating as blurting can be it's great to get to know these kiddos.
