The Steamboat was a new and improved boat in its timed and is still used today. It was created in the Industrial Revolution. In 1787, John Fitch demonstrated the first steamboat, which had twelve paddles and was propelled by a steam engine. From 1787 to the 1830s, steamboats were improved. In 1804, John Stevens built a steamboat with a new engine that used a higher pressure. A lot of people tried to improve steamboats so that they could carry passengers and cargo. Robert Fulton was the first to accomplish the task. By purchasing a steam engine built by James Watt, he was able to use the engine to power a 133-foot steamboat, the Clermont. In 1807, Robert Fulton's boat made a journey from New York City to Albany. By the 1830s, steamboats were the convention. They were used as methods of transportation in canals and other navigable waterways. They were used to promote trade.

The boat has been used since 1807. The boat is not as widely used today but is still used. The boats were mostly powered by steam. The engine it used was called the Newcomen Engine. The boat also had a paddle wheel which is the most memorable thing about the steamboat. The boats had a hull, or body, made of timber. The job of the Steamboat was to transport goods and people across rivers. Robert Fulton the creator of the working steamboat was called “father of steam navigation.” He was not the first guy to create a steamboat. The steamboat could go to astonishing speeds for this time era. The boat could up to speeds of 5 Mph which was fast for that time. The danger of steamboats made the boat even more eye-catching to the people such as explosions and the boats sinking. The Steamboat was a very popular thing to transport shipments and people across rivers. There are very many different types of Steamboats. They had many slaves work on steamboats on the Mississippi.

The steamboat impacted North America’s society extremely in a good way. Steamboats were the first thing to use to travel upstream. The steamboat led to new towns and it advanced the economy. The steamboat had a large influence on today’s marketplace as well. Farmers could sell surplus crops to remote locations as well without them spoiling on the way there. Factories could mass-produce and distribute more household items. The steamboat allowed goods to go both up and down the stream. The boats travelled on the Mississippi river which was where many towns were made. This is how the steamboat impacted the society.
