Greek life is an excellent way to find community with in a large university. Some fraternities and sororities are culturally and or community based. Doing cultural events and ceremonies or community service. I personally have no intentions of joining one. Fraternities and sororities have do get in the news for a bit, and not for good things. Also i will be apart of a community thanks to sports.

Fraternities and sororities are social organizations in college and in universities. Joining a fraternity or sorority provides more opportunities for finding a career after school. A positive thing about frats and sororities is the fact that they usually have a strong connection to their school's alumni. Greek life members participate in community service and other events on campus, which looks good on a resume as well. I would not want to join a sorority because I am not a people person. I would not want to hang out with a bunch of random girls or do activities with them. I'd rather go to college and focus on my work only.

Social and cultural fraternities/sororities and social fellowships are student organizations whose primary purpose is the personal development of their members. Social/cultural fraternities and sororities promote relationship bonds and friendships of brotherhood and sisterhood. which is way you often hear members referring to other members as “brothers” or “sisters.” Social/cultural fraternities and sororities typically have rituals and creeds which promote the ideals such as friendship, loyalty, academic achievement and intellectual development, service to the community and the honor and integrity, leadership and personal responsibility. Members of this groups do community service, mentor and tutor new students, and do fundraising to help there communties.
These so called rituals and creeds more often then not lead to out of control negative behaviors which is one reason why I would never want to join.
