She was the main character in the story but it wasn't apparent at first because of all the other male crewmates under the spotlights. I don't know much about Alien but I think Ripley's goal is survival and that is the thing keeping her going. She receives a lot of hate from her male crewmates and is forced to be very strong and independent without much help from her crew.
