Texture is the perceived surface of a work of art. There can be physical or visual texture, physically texture are the patterned variations upon a solid surface and are used in sculpture and other three dimensional artworks and visually is the illusion of having physical texture and is used in photography, painting and other two dimensional artworks. Some textures include soft, hard, fluffy, rough, smooth.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-14/bride-running-away-by-arthur-boyd.jpg/4197918

In this painting Arthur Boyd uses texture to create a tumultuous looking ocean creating an angry, violent scene behind the man and bride. The textures in the background juxtapose the smoother looking textures in the characters, placing emphasis on the natural environments' unpredictable, vehement forces.

The space utilised in Arthur Boyd's 1941 Drawing, 'Figures with hospital bed and sleeping dog: Army hospital' is utilised in several ways. The frame isn't filled with colour and line. Instead, the sparse use of pen allows a creative use of empty space to 'fill' the frame, when the frame is truely mostly empty (subjective). The space has elements of one dimensional, two dimensional and three dimensional line and objects. These confections and uses of space create a dissonant and emotional scene through the creative use of a common drawing implement.
https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/figures-with-hospital-bed-and-sleeping-dog-army-hospital/6AGk0pw_6PgoTg?hl=en

H

In the artwork Persecuted Lovers by Arthur Boyd the use of line is quite prominent, changing the way the audience thinks about the painting. The use of line in the artwork helps the audience to understand the extremity of the gun being pointed directly at Arthur Boyd and his wife. The path created by the line in the painting directs attention towards the couple but helps to show how inferior they are compared to the officer holding the gun. The line of the gun is a descriptive one dimensional point moving in space, implying Arthur Boyd’s unfortunate demise after being caught after just wanting to love his wife.

Colour is a element of art that is used by every artist to help create and produce a verity of things such as emotion and detail. This is perfectly shown in a Arthur Boyd work “THE SHEPHRD” take notice to how Arthur used the darker colours around the edge of the image to draw the audience eye to the subject in the middle of the image in this case a dead human. The darker colours also draw our eyes towards the lighter colours. Arthur also used colour to illustrate lighting onto the subjects.

Balance is the concept of visual equilibrium, and relates to our physical sense of balance. It is a reconciliation of opposing forces in a composition that results in visual stability. Most successful compositions achieve balance in one of two ways: symmetrically or asymmetrically. Balance in a three dimensional object is easy to understand; if balance isn't achieved, the object tips over. To understand balance in a two dimensional composition, we must use our imaginations to carry this three dimensional analogy forward to the flat surface.
Shoalhaven River

Oil on canvas, 100.2 x 120 cm
The composition is bisected horizonta

Peter's fish and crucifixion, 1993, oil on canvas.

Unity/harmony in art is the quality of wholeness or oneness, it is the arrangement of elements to create a feeling on the emphasis on completeness.

The major element in art that creates harmony is colour, hence Arthur Boyd’s Peter's fish and crucifixion, 1993, oil on canvas used the primary colours of blue, red and yellow. The use of basic colours is a form of element, which makes the painting in tune with one another. Painting the warm colours in the centre of the painting creates unity and connection between the mountains and the river. The colours used in the fish and the background complement each other, which in contrast create a feeling on completeness.

River bank and four rocks

1993

Taking a closer look at form illustrated in Arthur Boyds canvas painting, ‘River bank and four rocks’ the viewer sees the formation of depth. Both in the physical thickness of the paints once they dried and the depth illustrated through the paints, creating the illusion of highlights and shadows and objects such as the rocks. This canvas is 152.0 x 122.0 cm stretcher; 155.5 x 125.0 x 4.5 cm frame and by doing so Arthur Boyd created immense focus on the texture, colours and depth of the oil paints used. The size of the canvas is a creative choice that encompasses the term ‘form’ in artworks. Boyds chosen medium in this particular artwork is oil paints that were painted on with his hands and brushes.

Types and ways of line bring us psychological response due to what we see.
In Arthur Boy
d’s paintings, the painting "St Francis Taking the Rosary" (1970) emphasis the creation of shapes and shadows by only thick and darken lines to create an horror imagination in viewers' feel.
