Kristallnacht took place from November 9-10, 1938. On this night, German Nazis torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools, and businesses, killing almost 100 jews. On the following days, an estimated 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to concentration camps, only being released when promising to leave Germany. Because Hitler initiated violence and in Germany it is difficult to engage in resistance, most Germans participated out of fear but also hatred. It is believed that the event took place as revenge for the death of a German official murdered by a Jew, along with years worth of built up hatred with no underlining reason.

The Nazis blamed the Jews for Kristallnacht, fining them 1 billion marks for vom Rath's death. The government seized Jewish property and kept insurance money owed to them. The Nazi government enacted more discriminatory policies that excluded Jews from all aspects of life. Over 100,000 Jews fled the country as they realized that the Nazi anti-semitism was not temporary and would only get worse. International communities were outraged by the event, some cutting off relations, however, the Nazis faced no serious consequences.

Jews and non Jews had a relatively good relationship. Non Jews helped the Jews out with everything even preparing for Bat Mitzvahs. Neighbors of Jews that were Non Jews were always on good terms. Jews had good jobs and even lived on very nice streets when they could afford it. Jews had things like, nanny's, piano lessons, trips around the country. Jews were very tolerant and religious as well.

On the night of Kristallnacht, Families were forcefully pushed out of their homes and onto a train to Poland. Miriam Ron's family was lucky enough to not get on the train. That night, the family went back to their house because the father was in the hospital. The next morning after that, they received a call asking for their family, so they ran from bench to bench until they found shelter with a professor. Once the family went back to their house, a work friend of the fathers came to their house and told them they needed to run again. This time they tried to get a taxi to take them somewhere but they were being denied because they were Jewish. Finally, one man did and showed them to a place where they would be on polish soil so they would be safe. At the beginning of Kristallnacht people did not want to have a polish passport because they would be sent back on the train, but in the end, they wanted to be Polish so they could be safe on Polish soil.
