Throughout most of my childhood, I very much enjoyed playing outside and wanted a pet, although my parents would not allow it due to allergies. This book series was the gateway between being able to experience the outdoors and imagining the life of a pet I hoped to have in the future. Although I started reading this series in the middle of middle school, I still enjoy this series of series, as there are multiple series of books linked together, and go back to it because of the thrill of nature and the hope that one day I can get a pet.

This was the first ever book that I remember truly enjoying and leading me into my love of reading. Although this book does have many issues with grammar and plot, I found the comedic aspects of the book very exciting and entertaining, especially since it was a graphic novel. This book lead me into a phase of my life where I mostly wanted to sit down on the couch or lie on my bed and read for hours without end.

Divergent

Most of my childhood I enjoyed comedic and fantastical stories that were not related to my life in any way. However, this was the first book I ever read that was somewhat like real life, although there were many fantastical elements attached. Divergent was my introduction into young adult reading and I read it at a time where I was becoming a young adult and trying to put myself out in the world. From this book, I began to truly appreciate the art of world-building and its relation to storytelling and how to keep it realistic to connect with the reader.

March: Book One

This book was the first book that I ever read that was both a graphic novel and autobiography. I found the style of writing and storytelling fascinating, especially with how the book still relates to modern issues. I myself mostly have stayed with more fantastical and fictional books, so I was interested with how John Lewis was able to make his own story both factual and engrossing the reader in his story.
