I met Dr. Bullock back in 2007/2008 as a freshman at Hillside NewTech. In his class we were allowed to be our truest selves. He greeted and guided us with kind words but also knew how to straighten us out without damaging the relationships he built with us. I had the honor of being in all the classes he taught and getting on his nerves in each one lol. My most fondest memory with Dr. Bullock is from our AP World History class. We had to create a song from scratch about the dynasty that was assigned to our group. We had to make the beat, write the lyrics and present it to the class. My classmates and myself still remember the lyrics from this assignment from 10+ years ago. Dr. Bullock found ways to ensure that we all felt heard and seen when in his presence. No matter how many times he pulled students out of class to correct their behavior he would not hold that against them, each day would be a new start. I will always have the memories of Dr. Bullock rapping in class and being his most authentic self. His laugh made us all laugh.

I recently learned about the history of DPS' implementation of Restorative Justice Practices and Dr. Bullock's pivotal role in bringing awareness and solutions within our public schools. Dr. Bullock's impact is clear and exciting in what he has started and what will continue after he has left. I wish Dr. Bullock greatness in his future endeavors and am grateful for his leadership. Dr. Bullock,

You were such a joy to work with when I first came to DPS. You don't know that your kindness and smile made some rough days bearable indeed. Thank you for your listening ear as I navigated my daughters through those middle years!

You will be sorely missed around these parts! Thank you for all you have done to impact DPS and the community with your passion and commitment to serve in every way you could. God bless your next!!! I can't wait to see what He does through you!

KB, this is such a bittersweet moment. You've given 18 years to DPS and now you're pivoting in a different direction. I'm so proud of all of the work you initiated through the district, the teams you've built/been a part of, and the work y'all continue to accomplish together! Y'all have set an incredible example for others to follow. And your leadership has helped to undergird it all.

I'm most excited about seeing you thrive, seeing us thrive, as we return to work side by side at WE ARE. The sky is limit. We're about to #LiftOff. I give God all the glory, all the honor, and all the praise because without Him, none of this would be possible.

Thank you in advance for what is to come. Thank you for trusting me, and God's light in me. We gone continue spreading His love together.

Dr. Bullock is an amazing servant leader. His work as an educator, District leader, and mentor will transform lives for many generations. I met Dr. Bullock many years ago when he was our District Social Studies leader. Dr. Bullock also introduced me to Equity work in education. He was always there for advice. His mentorship and professional recommendations have opened many doors of opportunity for me as an educator. I am forever grateful for all that he has done for me, Durham Public Schools and to make our Durham community a better place. I wish you many blessings in your next chapter.
