A lot of Magrittes’s pieces have a similar colour scheme, consisting of a pale blue/ monotone selection. This portrays a sort of emptiness but fullness at the same time, they seem like they have little emotion behind them but in reality they do.

The Lovers

This is a portrayal of two lovers kissing while wearing cloth masks, containing themes of frustrated desire and obsession. It could be seen as two people that can’t fully be together for some reason or don’t truly know one another.

The themes presented here link with my idea of love & violence, could be portrayed as an obsessive and psychotic relationship. Two people who are obsessed and desire one another - they would kill for one another and they do, whose complex issues both maintain and destroy their relationship.

The cloths on their head seem like they are suffocating them, showering that their relationship is a bad idea and would slowly suffocate and kill them however this doesn’t stop them.
