Lincoln's way to reconstruct was by doing something called the 10 percent plan. Lincoln announced in December 1863 his Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction. As long as you weren't a high ranking confederate or someone who has made war crimes you would be accepted back into the Union. One of the weaknesses of this plan is that President Lincoln only encourage the Southern States to give the previous slaves an opportunity to vote. One strength is that Lincoln was against violence and chose this plan to help keep the Union together.

Which of the plans is most similar to your plan? Explain

The Radical Republicans in Congress plan is most similar to ours because the main goal was to follow the declaration of independence and the line that read "all men are created equal" and have "certain unalienable rights." It is important to follow this because all people especially slaves should be treated equally to white men. However, our plan does take time. The freedom and equality for African Americans can't change overnight, we have to take time to slowly change their rights so they can eventually become more equal. If the rights of African Americans changed to being completely equal to White people, it can cause many feuds with the people that disagree with freeing the slaves. So by having a plan that over time helps to make the slaves freer, we are both accommodating for the whites and African Americans.

The plan we believe would be most likely to succeed is the Radical Republican in Congress Plan. This is because the strengths were focussed on slaves and creating equality. The weaknesses of racial justice and distributing land would not have a significant and horrible impact as compared to the other plans. Although, Lincoln had some key points to his plan would be successful which includes the importance of peace.

By doing this they were doing the same work they did as slaves and given the same accommodation. The only difference was they were being paid.

Why did reconstruction fail?

The failure of the reconstruction shows why governments would fail to change behavior and solve injustices in society through the formation of groups (KKK), as well as African Americans losing their right to vote.

After African Americans lost their right to vote there was a plan called the Mississippi plan. This plan was “a wave of violence designed to intimidate black activists and suppress black voters”(Secondary Source #2). This plan caused a decrease in the number of colored people that would vote. Also, The republican president wanted to be in control of the Whitehouse and gave full control of the south to the Democrats. The Democrats then chose to not follow the 15th amendment which causes many problems for African Americans. Not only did the democrats just not follow the 15th amendment but the United States never committed the personnel required to restore order and guarantee black southerners the rights promised by the Fourteenth Amendment.

After taking away the rights of African Americans, many groups formed that initially went against blacks in general. One specific group called the Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1865. They became a group after the troops were dismissed from the South because there was no one to stop them from targeting people. This ultimately led to the Democratic Party taking over the government. Hayes, therefore, had no choice but to give up the position of supporting the reconstruction which unfortunately leads back to Racial discrimination. More specifically it says, “Racial discrimination once again took center stage in American politics, reversing many of the progressive reforms enacted during Reconstruction”(Secondary source #1). Racial discrimination was one main problem trying to be fixed, however, the government did a poor job of doing so which was one way of leading the reconstruction to failure.

When a government must change behavior or solve injustices in society, there will never be an option to which everyone agrees, there will always be someone who disagrees. This leads the country to many conflicts and in our case many conflicts within the United States. With African Americans losing their right to vote and the various groups that would attempt to kill and kill many citizens, it is clear to say that our reconstruction process did not succeed and instead caused a great deal of pain and suffering to many people.
