The Black Belt was highly fertile soil around the Alabama region that was great for farming cotton. Farming is hard to find info on but we can assume it was most likely picked by hand since the mechanical reaper was for wheat and not cotton. There isn't much on farming I won't lie.

Made by Eli Whitney, Cotton Gin. Creation of this small tool led to a more efficient farming of cotton as it separated seeds from the cotton. Led to more slave usage which is next. Used on large plantations as we expanded westward with more and more land, coinciding with more and more need for effective farming tools.
John Deere’s steel plow led to quicker creation of farmable land as it was a horse drawn shovel type item that stirred up ground. This was the first of many innovations to the steel plow that revolutionized efficiency of land farming.

Slaves made a come back during this time because of the introduction of the cotton gin as farmers rapidly moved westward for more and more land. Large plots needed many slaves to fill as much time effectively as possible.
Keep in mind slavery generally grew only in the south as in the midwest.

Natives got pushed back more and more as we expanded westward. Could also coincide with the trail of tears as it took place around the time as well, as well as the tension building up to it.
