To break it,we have to put enough strain on the nucleus. If you do that to the atom,the atom won't have enough binding energy to keep it's self together. When an atom is split a particular energy is released,called minuscule.If an atom splits under the right conditions, some stray neutrons are released. Once the neutrons are released it can split atoms,causing a chain reaction.Almost all atoms can be split,but it's all determined on the size of the atom.Atoms with larger nuclei can be more split successfully. It took about 380,000 years for electrons to be trapped in orbits around nuclei, which made the first atom. In WW2 the United States used atoms on Japan on twice,ending WW2.
