When i was listening to 101.1 radio in my car one composer really grasped my attention. When listening to the music it made me visualize the western art musical cannon. When i researched the composer i found that it was western instead a Austrian Composer from the 1750's. This goes to show that even though that musical cannon is not just american composers but instead composers from all around the world that shape the cannon.

The western art musical cannon I think is mainly focused around musical pieces that are greatly liked by society. Usually the western musical cannon focuses on older classical pieces of music. The pieces of musical that shape the musical cannon have been around for a long amount of time. Usually performers that perform these pieces of music do not change the style of the music. This plays a big part of shaping the western art musical cannon as to it will not change for many years to come. Usually the western art musical cannon is composed of softer tones that make the music more appealing and pleasant. These pieces have musical elements and instruments that resemble classical era music. Instruments such as strings, pianos and organs play a big role in shaping the musical cannon. The western art musical cannon is one the is unique and special. Its pieces and composers have been around for a very long time and I think they will be around for many years to come.

"History is written by the Victors"-Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill is famous not only for his success during world war 2 but also for his famous inspiring quotes. Two of his quotes come to mind when i think of him " History is written by the victors" and " We have nothing to fear but fear its self". These quotes meant to boost morale during WW2 have now became known world wide and still till this very day. I think that what Winston was trying to say was that only the victorious are allowed to decide what happens. If you lose you have no power to say what did and didn't happen. This plays hand in hand with the western art musical cannon. I think that cannon is shaped by not the "victorious" composers but by music that is appealing to everybody. If nobody likes your music then it will not carry on. in order to shape the musical cannon your music has to be accepted and loved in order to let the music live on.
