1. Francesca is in a contemplative mood, the camera is positioned in a low shot, looking up at her, she doesn't make eye contact with the camera as she is thinking of the past, she looks like a princess in the tower, just as trapped by the rules of the school, she comes up with the idea to escape, modern twist of fairy tale, ironic that the 'princess' saves herself and they boys, to link the fairy tale and the boy's creative project
2. The director has included this scene to draw the link between modern day issues and the fairy tale, fairy tales give lessons on life, way of developing imagination, imagination is the catalyst for rebellion; it also signals the turning point for which the children start to fight for their freedom
3. The sound effects recall the protest earlier in the film, there's a lot of shouting and racket representing the power of the people, Francesca remembers Ettore as a 'key' for their freedom
4. She is remembering the freedom and excitement of her last outing, she saw the people making change and she then believes change can occur within the school
5. The panning shot shows the height of the furnace (like a tower) and represents power

1.The close up of Mirco's face shows his pensive mood. it's a personal shot that emphasises Mirco and don Giulio's relationship and mutual understanding/respect.
2. Don Giulio is aligning himself with Mirco and his ideas. He shows affectionate, parent-like body language that supports and encourages mirco's aspirations even though they conflict with the institution. Shown by Don Giulio scruffing Mirco's hair-Close proximity with Mirco that shows his closeness.Don Giulio visits Mirco even though he is detained in the classroom.
3. Mirco has been forced to leave the institution because of his rebellious nature. when Don Giulio asks if Mirco is happy about leaving, Mirco says yes. He has always wanted to leave the institute.
4. Mirco is viewing the situation from a child's point of view. He is worried that Don Giulio will be in trouble for giving Him the recorder.
5. Mutual understanding and respect. Despite the teacher-student relationship there is a fatherlike affection shown-similar conversion between Achille and Mirco. There is a protective nature in regards to Don Giulio's tone and body language.

1. They are not in the same frame at the same time. We see the close up shot of Don Giulio's face and see the longing in it. We get a close up of the direttore's hands... Parallel to Mirco's use of hands, for different reasons. Hands representative of one of the senses. The idea of touch, symbolically other peoples lives and the impact you have on lives and the impact of the direttorre.
2. We are focused on the actors so our focus is 100% on what is happening and not what is going on it the background. Make the background insignificant.
3. The direttore's face is frustrated and he is over all the changes that are occurring. He doesn't want to have anything to do with Mirco and his creativity anymore. Don Giulio, is momentarily optimistic that the direttore will listen to his concerns and take them on board.
4. He says that Don Giulio doesn't understand because he is not blind him self and can't understand the social stigma and troubles that are attached to being blind.
5.He has had the experience of being able to see, but no he doesn't. He approaches it differently to Mirco. This explains why he is so controlled and fearful of being blind in a sense.
6. He is making a point. It is his way of placing himself on the side of the children...
7. It's a bitterness and he doesn't want to be seen to not know what is going. It indicates that he expected that Don Giulio would take the side of the boys anyway.
8.That times are changing and people need to be able to see difference. He suggests that he is starting to want to step up and take control, and to show Don Giulio that he is wrong and that imagination and freedom is something that is really important for the lives and future of the boys.

9. Formal language, I am the boss, don't question my authority. There is no room for interpretation.

1. he is having a conversation with himself and he stops her to voice his opinion out loud to try and justify the thoughts in his head.
2. It is a last minute decision to take to her.. he is contemplating the leap of faith. It first it is sort of a stream of consciousness, it is a one way conversation. As he progresses he gets more confident in what he is saying. This is due to what Concettina says it influences him to stand up for what is right. And it makes it seem easier, because she says she's 'not educated' yet she can understand that you need to take a stand for what you believe in.
3. When she moves forward and starts pointing the finger at him. and she starts to make her case about into taking a stand and following what you believe in.
4. Her body lanuage is her arms and her boys moving forward, this tells us taht she is passionate about what she is sayingn

1. The soundtrack is hopeful and builds a sense of triumph and excitement.
2. The protesters have gathered in protest to push for school reform (which is why Francesca escaped from the school to see Ettore for help) to bring about this protest, the crowd represent freedom of the people and the challenging of unjust systems, the outside world peers into the world of the institute, bringing serious issues to light
3. There are low angle shots of the building showing dominance, authority and power, as well as the walls as a defense, close-up shot of Ettore outside the iron fence who is free, protesters are looked down on by the direttore showing how their voice/actions are always overlooked/silence, power through unity
4. The placards link the stereotypes associated with the blind children becoming
Slogans are about unity, the lower classes standing up and being recognised, not letting authority rule over them, the institute becomes a prison
5. Francesca peeps out the iron fence and places sight on Ettore who smiles back at her, indication of how in tune they are with each other, both acknowledge their efforts in this protest
6. The direttore becomes 'imprisoned' in his office, there is darkness within the room and the light (hope and freedom) is coming from outside the window
7. He would be feeling afraid and vulnerable
8. Imposing feeling, shows the walls as a defense against outside influence, Francesca peers out a little window as she is apart of the protest, the exterior looks disregarded and shabby

5. We think of her as a stronger character within the film. We see her as a strong socially aware character, with an open mind that has not been effected by the education system. She understands things as a result of her nurturing and caring attitude.
6. She gives him the advice to follow what he thinks is right for the well being of the boys.
7. Don Guilo is able to gain the strength he needs for the future and the future of being a strong presence within the school.
8. The open door at the end of the corridor, which is full of light and opportunity for the future if he wishes to take the steps he needs to overrule the Director.

1. The Nuns entrance is rushed, flustered, she is stressed for the future of the school. The Nun doesn't want to talk to the Direttore as she is worried and stressed.
2. The moving camera shots adds to the atmosphere of stress and anxiety within this scene. The movement of the Nun, is the 'worried pacing walk'. The circle movement also adds to the chaotic
3. Her body language suggests that she is understanding of the events that are going to occur. And that she feels as though she is powerless to stop the outcome of events.
4. This reminds us of social change and progress and power of the people, rallying against the injustices of institutionalism.
5. The juxtaposition between the Nun and the Direttore and their reactions to the unfolding events. Whereas, we get the contrast between the outside environment of the school and the inside environment of the school. The inside is where everything is falling apart, showing by the swirling camera angles, yet the outside the momentum is building and the camera is steady, signifying that the people as the collective have a stronger argument.
6. It is blocking the opportunity for change.

1. He has heard concettina. and he is filled with his desire to initiate change. He is falling on blindness and deafness in a sense and this is the way to approach it. He is determined. He has found the resilience to stand up and say that it is not ok.
Up until now he has being doing his job and just following the party line.
2. The language reflects the demotion of his power. He is no longer in control.
3. The direttore sign over Don Giulio's shoulder. All te props reflect tradition and this separates Don Giulio and the direttore. The religious statue behind the direttore and the wisdom person behind don giulio. The desk between them. The light is outside of the building. The books are all over the table are all set up. They're not open. His time has come. His power has ceased. all the bowed heads of the statues. He sits down he is worn, broken, deflated.

6. The slumping into the chair, the cutting in of the sound. his arguments are overridden by the children's enthusiasm while we are still looking at him!
