Year 4 had an exciting journey back in time to the Roman era!

It was a fantastic day full of learning, discovery and fun and a brilliant way to bring our history topic to life!

The children were very engaged and asked lots of questions. It also helps us prepare for our fundraising campaign and harvest assembly, where we will put these values into practice by sharing what we have with those in need.

We're also aware of how this links with human rights.

In the afternoon, we took part in a competition to design a sustainable aircraft of the future. When designing we had to consider the following:

*How will it be powered?

*What makes it stand out above all of the others?

*How is it sustainable?

We then spent some time testing out our gliders, seeing how far it would travel and how quickly, meaning we were able to work out the speed they were travelling.

5M took part in a STEM event online, which allowed them to work in teams to design their own gliders from specifications given. They then used materials such as straws, card, masking tape and blue tac to assemble them.

The children visited the Church of St John where they were told the Christian story of Christmas.

What a way to finish our geography topic of 'rainforests'.

We loved looking at the animals and really enjoyed the workshop. Not only did we consolidate our learning but we also learnt how we can help the rainforest by living sustainability and reducing our palm oil consumption.

We had a great visit from Azeem who is an inspiration to many of us!

He taught us to play blind football and helped us to understand how to persevere.

We were lucky enough to be visited by Azeem, a visually impaired football player, who has played for England!

He taught us about the difficulties of being visually impaired and how he overcomes these. He showed us his purchase of Meta glasses, which has helped him to live a very fulfilled life!

We tried a few different activities to see what it is like to have a lack of sight and/or a lack of hearing.

Today we headed to Moses Gate, where we looked at the River Croal, which runs through the country park. We tried to see which features of a river we could see and talked about how the River Croal is a tributary of the River Irwell.

We have gathered with lots of other Year 5 children from across Farnworth to meet with different people who have some incredible careers. From construction, to Paralympic athletes to paramedics.

We came away with a lasting messages:

Today we joined in with a national workshop that explored the safe use of AI.

Our caterpillars are getting much bigger now. In the next 7 days, they should attach to the top of the cup and become chrysalides.

Year 6 headed to the library to develop our reading skills and love of reading while Year 1 headed to the park to build their gross motor skills.

We’re getting increasingly confident when searching the physical and electronic library systems. We’re also dab hands at checking out our own books 📚

We had a lovely time learning about the Easter story, which included lots of elements that we have previously learnt in Year 4.

We enjoyed a range of brilliant experiences from learning about fire risk, calls, emergency procedures and safety.
