In my classes, if there is a situation for a listening activity and if the book I am using as a material has a listening part, I do prefer some warm up activities before starting to process with the book. I usually prepare my own materials to make my students acquainted with the topic or situation by using mostly songs they will like with a gap-filling activity. Besides this, I may use some sections from series or films using voscreen or I may prefer to add some real-life situations acted by native speakers (in accordance with their levels). My aim here is to make my students not to worry about what they will study and feel relaxed by having some ideas before the lesson starts.

From today's lesson, the most attractive listening activity for me was Lies from a short story. I have never encountered this activity before but that was not the reason for it to be attractive for me. The thing that effected me most is that it can draw ss' close attention if additionally the topic is interesting enough for them. It can also be made more charming by adding some competitions like ' who will catch more lies or who will catch the lies first?

In addition, there would be no one in the world that doesnt like compliments. Psychologically, these words make everyone feel great and more self-confident even if they are not real. In accordance, if self-confidence increases, the interest to the topic or to the person raises as well. That means, complimenting is a practical way of attracting the students to the lesson and good way of listening the others and responding accordingly.

The most common problem for me in English classes as I said during the lesson is that students are not exposed to 2nd. language enough during the classes that is either because of the inadequate curricula or the inability of the teacher in speaking English and not having enough qualifications. A teacher starting lesson with his mother tongue means he wont be creating an authentic athmoshere to teach a second language.

When I turn back to my classes I would like to try "hidden words" as it is really enjoyable and gripping activity that enables students listen closely and then makes them answer accordingly. Besides this, I will try "flipgrid" as it requires using technology which the students of this age are keen on and in which they will feel comfortable as they can try for the best one how many times they wish. It is one of the easiest way for the teachers to assign their students as they can check their process easily whenever they want.

Day 4 Reflection

From
Today’s lesson, KWL activity i dont know but somehow new to me. I found it very useful for students to track on their progress. What they already know, what they have learned in this lesson means a kind of track for them.

I will also use my chance for picking an activity to use in my classes KWL. It enables ss to brainstorm before the activity and sums up everything before post reading.

In today’s monitoring activity, I was the person who disturbs eveybody. I really had fun 🤣but I understand how concentration is important during an activity as well.
When it comes to feedback, it is precious for a teacher to evaluate what she has brought in her students, what is her and her ss’ lacks, what to correct for the next time and id the activity works on that class or not.

Day 5 reflection

I would like to use Biteable as it urges ss to make creative videos and as they are all willing to use technology, it will be an interesting way to attract them to writing rather than write on a piece of paper without any creation or attraction.
About a PDC in writing, my colleagues would be mostly interested in attraction or charming their ss to writing. As in the existing educational system, writing lessons are nearly all about just pen and paper. As the technology improves and reaches to the remotest places, we should make use of it in our classrooms.

Day 6 Reflection

In my opinion PPP idea is really great. The students grab the structure without noticing that thay are learning it as the teacher gives them exposure of the structure. Many students get bored of having formulas or seeing structures. So it is an enjoyable way of teaching them a grammatical structure.

Day 7 Reflection

The common problem not only in my area but also in the whole TUrkey about assessment is that there is no mutual assessment department just working on the assessment process of schools. In every school, teachers prepare every assessment materials themselves. The duty of a teacher sholudnt include this. We should just be engaging in the teaching process and instead of losing time for the assessment process, we should spend our limited time getting prepared for the activities that attract ss to our lessons.

In mylocal context, I will be the only one facilitator. So i feel great burden on me. Thats not because i couldn manage it, just because the commplaints i will hear or lack of enthusiasm i will see or teachers’ hesitation to speak English. I dont want them make me to lose my will for it.

The networks i have been included here will be a perfect guidance for me as we will be discussing every point there or we can have immediate help or support from them. They will also help to overcome the obstacles we encounter.

It was our Pdc day. Most of my colleagues were really tight so i felt myself a bit weird as we were really relaxed as a group 😅. Anyway, we are teachers of years and that is not something that strains us. As a group we were successful but me and Ahu had some small technical problems with the board thats because we are not teaching for a long time and not using the smart board. The second gap would be that we should have written the topic of our presentation on the board. Instead of that we prefferred to start with a picture written a quote on it. These are what i find for our presentation and i really wonder your comments on it.
