1. Families have the power to influence tracking decisions
2. The implementation of the policy comes down to individual schools and even classrooms. The decision can be influenced by families and teachers.
3. parents, classroom teachers, department heads, guidance counselors, principals, superintendent and local school board creating and implementing policies
4. To the school board and superintendent:
We need to clarify the process and criteria for tracking and need to share the information with all parents as well as sharing data on current and past data on demographics and student success rates. Use resources such as the NC Public Schools parent and family involvement toolkit http://www.ncpublicschools.org/parents/toolkit/ to increase parent involvement in their child's educational plan. Implement a plan for outreach to the families that are least likely to understand how tracking works, the outcomes at the end of middle, high, college, work, etc. for different tracks, and what can be done to influence student placement.
