I'm from Intibucá. I live in Tegucigalpa. When I was a child, at the age of 7, my parents used to take me on trips to the Gruta de la Esperanza. I didn't go very often, as the trip was long and also because my parents were low-income at that time. We liked to go because it was around November, and that was the month when the temperature dropped much more, and of course, I'm cold-natured, so I loved to go during that season. This place is characterized by being one of the coldest places in the country, so when you go to visit you have to go prepared with very warm sweaters, especially if you go in November and December, as the temperature can drop to 14 or 16 degrees. Back then, around 2008, the grotto was a place with many green areas; there weren't as many benches or electric lighting as there are in some later renovations. The floor was mainly dirt and loose stone, and many people went up to leave promises or light candles, as there's a church and the image of the Virgen de los Remedios there. People go to venerate the image and make their promises. It's said that in ancient times, prisoners made all the stairs by hand, using only their work tools.

if you visit Intibuca, you can enjoy it’s rich climate, its culture and it’s beautiful lands capes.
