Most of the paintings have dark and warm colours, they have chiaroscuro. some of the paintings don't have people in them like "House by the railroad" or "Approaching a city" and in the paintings with people in them, the people are represented in their evryday life, like working, eating or even just thinking in their room. Some of the paintings like "New York Movie" feel very loneley whilst "Night Hawks" or "Chop Survey" feel populated and others like "Approaching a city" are straight up isolated from any life like they have been cut off from society. The paintings have all been made in the middle of the 20th century and we can see that, even with all of those differences, we can see that they have the same artstyle that's really simple and more focused on the lights, the general feeling of the paintings and capturing a snippet of time. Edward Hopper does a really good job at making the paintings look powerful and mysterious.

All of them are bleak and mysterious, especially Automat and New York Movie some are bleaker than others.

Also all the paintings have cool tones like grey,light blue and cream-colored while New York Movie and Chop Suey have more warm colors (mustard yellow,orange and bright red).

However paintings look like they haven't life even if there is real person they look empty inside them. As if time stopped. Moreover these represent the actual society and the ordinary daily life of the person of the 30's during The Great Depression. Approaching a City and House by the railroad look more isolated then others.

All these paintings represent a scene of common life as in the restaurant, in bed, at the theater or at the station etcetera. They have no particular emotions the faces that we can see are neutral. The softening of the paintings have warm colors. The majority are women who are represented the scenes painting give free rein to our imagination for imagine what is happening in this painting.

All painting are realistic.

In paintings number 1,5,6 and 8 the light is bright contrary to others paintings with the light is dark.

However, in paintings 3,5 and 8 there are a dominance of warm colors and especially mustard yellow.

Pictures 2,3,4 and 7 are dark with a dominance of blackish colors.

Moreover, All paintings except 1,2 are in public place like in restaurants or in theater and in street during the night.

Firstable, we can see that every paintings seem to take place in the same city. It can be observed with some similarities : traks, same buildings between Morning sun and Approching city,… Some paintings take place at night and other during the day showing a contrast of colors : warm colors for workarts representing the day and cold colors for the evening. Although the main colors in every paintings are orange, red and yellow.

Every workart show the same places ( theatres for Two on the aisie and NY movie, bars for Automat, Night Hawks and Chop Suey) but above all shows classsic scene of life (=> realism caracteristics ).

Often, it represent loneliness and isolation ; It’s gloomy and isolated.

And finaly, the woman on Automat is the same that on Chop Suey.

Firstly, the paintings Morning sun, 1952, Approaching a City, 1946 , Chop Suey, 1929 ,House by the railroad, 1925 have warm colors, while the other paintings Automat, 1927,New York Movie, 1939,Two on the aisle, 1927 and Night Hawks, 1942.

The first three pictures show women sitting alone, thinking. They are unhappy, in solitude. However, the paintings Two on the aisle, 1927 and Night Hawks, 1942 and Chop Suey, 1929 are of people.

In nearly every picture, we can notice the presence of people, usually devoided of emotions however in two paintings, there are only buildings. For example, in the painting « two on the aisle » we can see three people whereas in the painting « house by the railroad », there are no people, only a house. The color palette used by Edward Hopper contains cold tones with a pop of a bright color which creates a claro obscuro like in the painting named « Chop Suey ». The paintings are a representation of everyday life like eating in a restaurant or thinking in a room.

The paintings are done in pastel. The atmosphere is mysterious and dark.

All of these paintings represents the loneliness. They are very isolated and gloomy. In the different paintings there is light and darkness, that call chiaroscuro.

However, in some paintings, we can see warm colors: orange, red, yellow.

In both painting we can see stillness scenes. There are three painting than warm colores. We can notice on two canvas there are nothing people , on three other painting there one people and on other there plural people but there is one people isolated. In both paintings by Edward Hopper (1882-1967) we can see buidling and often people and always the same cities. In 6 of these paintings we can notice people specially woman whereas in 2 others paintings there are nobody. In the Morning Sun (1952), the Chop Suey (1929), the Automat (1927) , the Night Hawks (1942) and the Approching a Cities (1946) we can see a contrast between the inside and the outside ( between the lights and the dark).Then in all of these paintings the artist, Edward Hopper have choice the warm colors like the orange, the brown and the red, howere he have also used cold color like in the Morning Sun for represent the lights of the sun. In both of these pictures we can feel loneliness, the atmosphere is calm and a little bit anxious. These are both realistic painting maked in the 20th century by Edward Hopper. Each of them comport a building like a theatre, a coffee bar or a house. There's no action, it feels like the time frozen. In both pictures, exept Approaching a city and House by the railroad, there are some people, they feel maybe depress and sad because of their gaze that seem empty.

However we can separate images into 2 groups :

Morning Sun, Approaching a city, House by the railroad and Shop Suey are brighter than all of the others. We can see more warm colors like mustard yellow, orange and red than cold tones. Those scenes are in the morning or during the day. We can see the light of the sun.

Moreover Automat, New York Movie, Two on the aisle and Night Hawks are composed of cool colors with grey and black. We can think those scenes take place at night because the light come from streets or interiors lamps.

All of these painting made by the same artirst have many commons points and differences at the same time.
