Harry Potter

Harry embodies the idea of not conforming to the typical standards assumed of a wizard (in the case of the series Harry Potter) because for one, he is a half-blood wizard, which is a rare quality to find among wizards. He also defies what others say and believe because he acts completely on his own bias and beliefs. Emerson says one should "Trust thyself" and to "Accept the... society of your contemporaries, the connection of events," which is what what Harry has done throughout his life.

This song embodies Emerson's idea of self reliance and nonconformity because she's saying how you shouldn't be like anyone else and to just do what you want to do. Especially when she says that "Every [person] has a choice,
To lead their own parade, I do it my way" to imply that people need to be self reliant and not reliant on others so you could be your own person. This connects with Emerson's overall claim because he believes that integrity is the most sacred thing of our minds and maintaining that would revolve around being true to yourself.

Albert Einstein contributed to the world of science and set the basis of what we view science as today, however during his time, people thought of him as a crazy, stupid person because he didn't do exceptional in school, which is odd given how praised he is today. He was one of the greats of our history that had been misunderstood in his time for not seeming as a typical "great" or having the usual outstanding credentials people like him have.

Appeals

Emerson utilizes an ethical appeal when he says "Bravely let him speak the utmost syllable of his confession," claiming how society needs to let everyone be as they wish and to stop pushing typical norms and conformation ideas onto everybody because people should have the right to do so. He later employs a logical appeal when detailing all the well known figures in our society that were great but misunderstood. He does this to provide cold hard facts supporting his claim that its not bad to be misunderstood and that even the greatest people of our time have experienced the struggle of not fitting into societies confirmations. Another example of an appeal he used, was the pathetic one used when he said, " These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world," causing the reader to feel somber because he's reminding them of how we are so influenced by everything around us, that we don't allow our own beliefs or ideas to play a part in our life.
