When police are perceived as legitimate, the public's trust and confidence will increase. This can then enhance the level of collective efficacy. Because of the collective efficacy, individuals are more likely to intervene with community problems, report crimes and build a lasting relationship with the police. However, police legitimacy is not always present. </div>]]></description>
