yes it does. Imperialism has never been a good thing, most of the times the goal of it are very selfish, they want power, military outposts, natural resources, to spread their religion.all of these things hurt the country's they are conquering or a least get rid of their free will.
Sometimes imperialism stems from nationalism, they want to conquer everyone to prove that they are the best, this is especially dangerous because they have no regard for the people the are taking over, after all they are the best so why should they care about country's that are below them.
When country's go to conquer other country's for economic reasons such as natural resources it hurt all the people that live there, you are stealing their resources along with the jobs of all the people who work with those natural resources, sometimes the conquerors very sell the resources back to the natives. this is what happened in the scramble for Africa, the Europeans were there for iron, gold and ivory and the saw Africa as their personal playground, they didn't care that people lived there, they wanted it so therefore it was theirs.
When Europeans decided to conquer china they defiantly upset the people there. they took over the ports so that they could make money from trade, they tried to convert the people to Christianity, and they also wanted to steal the natural resources. it wasn't just one nation that invaded china, it was many and they each had their own sphere of influence. some of the people just accepted the invasion however some were angry and retaliated, killing any European they could find, which in turn led to all of the people who rebelled being killed and having their heads put out o display.
when all this conquering and imperialism was going on the Europeans would make political cartoons, usually showing the people who were being conquered in a bad light, making them look crazy and uncivilized.
Nations would sometime justify their actions with social Darwinism, claiming that if they were strong enough to conquer another country then the other country is weak and that this is just the way of things.
there are just some examples of all the horrible things that have been done in the name of imperialism and it proves that it does deserve the bad reputation it has been given.
