This work was created to commemorate the victims of the bombing of Guernica City during the Spanish Civil War. 
The faces of the characters are deformed to express better the pain and suffering of the population. The woman on the left cries desperately and has her child's lifeless body in her arms. In the background there is the image of the bull, a mythical animal symbol of force and brutality. At the top of the scene there are two light sources: an electric light and an oil lamp, symbols of the truth that triumph over the lie. A soldier lies on the ground holding a broken sword. Finally, on the right, a woman screams with her arms up and runs from her flaming home.
