Lily and her friend Salma, that she meets during the summer. They both believe that Lily's dog Lucky, eyesight can be cured.

The characters are Lily, Salma, Lucky, Jacob, Caleb, Mr. Winthrop, Mrs. LaRue, Miguel, Pérère, Mama, Hannah, and Dr. Katz. Lily is the main character and she is on the mission to cure her dog's illness. Salma is Lily's friend and she is also trying to tag along with the journey to try to help Lucky. Jacob and Caleb aren't featured much in the book but, they are there to help and support Lily. Dr. Katz is Lucky's doctor to make sure she is safe and not in harm's way. Mama, is part of the family and she is featured a lot helping Lily on her thrilling Journey
