1. Bridge - Parsons argue the education system is a bridge between the family and wider society .
2) Role allocation- Davis & Moore argue that education system selects and allocated pupils to their future work roles. Marxists reject this claim and argue that it's no the most talented bu the most privileged.
3) Economic Function- Modern societies have a complex division of labour where people need specialist skills  
4) Social control- Both in school and in the workplace, we have to cooperate with people who are neither friends no family. - New Right thinkers favor the marketisation of education, creating an education market. they believe in competition between schools and laws of supply and demand.
