I read “This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate” by Naomi Klein. Klein argues that the fundamentals of capitalism (profit over everything) inherently make it difficult to progress in environmentalism, since cutting out fossil fuels would antagonize fossil fuel and oil companies, some of the biggest leaders in industry. However, grassroots efforts by local communities and concerned citizens are fighting for a cleaner world by protesting and speaking with legislators. In the end, Klein concludes that despite free-market capitalism’s iron grip on global warming, the power lies within people to act with urgency and incite a revolution that can change the world for the better.
