Elizabeth Ann Seton was American, born in New York in 1774 on August 28th and died in Emmitsberg on 1821 on January 4th, aged 46. At the age of 19, Seton married to William Seton who was the father to her children. William was a wealthy business man and died of tuberculosis in 1803 on December 27th. After her husband's death Elizabeth started to follow her religion more, she took her vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and finding for one year on March 25th 1809. Elizabeth was a widow at age 29 with 5 young children. Another influence of her religion was that Mother Seton lost her mother and felt great comfort that the Blessed Virgin was her mother, she asked the Blessed Virgin to guide her to the true faith and then Seton officially joined the Catholic Church. Widowed and left with 5 children, she was taken in with Anne Maria by the families of Filippo and Antonio Filicchi, while staying with these families Seton was introduced to Roman Catholicism. Elizabeth Seton was a nun and worked with the poor a lot, she started the first free Catholic school with some other associates. Seton joined the people in the founding the charitable institution in New York called the Relief of the Poor Widows with Small Children, she served as treasurer for 7 years. Elizabeth Seton also founded the Sisters of St Joseph. Mother Seton lost her mother and felt great comfort that the Blessed Virgin was her mother, she asked the Blessed Virgin to guide her to the true faith and then Seton officially joined the Catholic Church. As Mother Seton was coming towards the end of her life she believed that God was getting ready to call her. Her death was caused by tuberculosis, the same as her husband, in 1821. Elizabeth Ann Seton beatified by Pope John XXIII on March 17, 1963, and she was canonised by Pope Paul VI on September 14, 1975.

Some things that Elizabeth Seton would say would be "If I succeed I bless God. If I do not succeed, I bless God." and "The nearer a soul is truly united to God, the more its sensibilities are increased to every being of His creation; much more to those whom it is bound to love by the tenderest and most endearing ties". Seton wrote these in many of her letters to family and friends, this is spreading the word of God. Elizabeth Seton's spirit lives in the institutions that she founded and worked for. This is because she always had faith and spread that faith with others. The centres where her spiritual practises because she always would help others and teach them about Catholicism.
