The Industrial Revolution brought with it the rural exodus, people leaving the countryside in search of work and moving to the cities to live next to the factories, creating new cities. The working conditions of the workers were not the best, you can see in mary popins in the song ‘Step in Time’, how the chimney sweepers are full of ash that they have probably breathed in and due to lack of safety their lungs are black.

Years later, the labor unions, which is a group of workers who come together to support the workers.

Esto dio lugar a crear revueltas donde los trabajadores rompieron las máquinas, her name is luddism, porque trabajaban mucho tiempo y ganaban poco dinero. En mary popins, Mr. Banks works in a bank that symbolises the capitalism of the time, which puts money before people.

The Industrial Revolution brought many cultural changes that transformed people's way of life.

In education, more schools were created because factories needed better trained workers, and in leisure, new forms of entertainment such as theatres, parks and fairs were created.

Craft work was replaced by repetitive jobs with very strict working hours in factories and very bad conditions, chimney sweeps (like Bert) show the kind of dangerous and badly paid work that workers did at that time.

THE LABOUR MOVEMENT:

Because of poor working conditions, workers began to organise to demand rights. Thus was born the labour movement, which fought for better wages, shorter working hours and job security. Unions also appeared to protect workers.

Suffragism was a movement that fought for women's right to vote between the 19th and 20th centuries.
