parents can encourage play based learning by playing games that involve sorting and numbers ,start playing board games at home. parents could start taking their child to the library to introduce them to books and let the child choose the book. in library usually they have saturday morning where they have a sing along class or story and puppet time. they could introduce that into the childs routine... games in the car like "i spy"

We could help parents by offering them books and ideas for games they can do every week or every two weeks,since many parents often ask for new ideas or ways to imrpove their children's literacy and numeracy skills.

By providing books, families could rotate one book each week, and we could give them a list and the necessary materials for easy and fun experiences they can do at home, involving the whole family.

First of all, there should be good communication and organitazion in order to talk with the staff about what isn't working or what could be improved, by having weekly or monthly meetings that promote positive communication and teamwork.

It would also be very beneficial to continue offering training to all staff members to support their personal and profesional growth, ultimately benefiting the children's education.

By giving parents perhaps a chance to join a library within the setting so that the children could take a lend of books and return them so they had time at home to look through books and spend time enjoying the experience together. In the setting we send home 'listening bear' with the children but perhaps this could be extended to a game to take home for the weekend which encouraged support in literacy, numeracy and digital literacy. It could be something that the whole family could enjoy together. Open days could also take place where families/guardians could come into the setting and engage in fun interactions which also helped enable them to support learner literacy, numeracy and digital literacy. A meeting could be held to discuss with all staff in the setting what would work best for each setting so that everyone got a say. Suggestions could be made and perhaps webinars, in-house training or individual training could take place that suits each staff members needs so that the professional practice was fun and unique to each person gaining new knowledge and skills. Encouragement and recognition should also be important as upskilling is hugely important to support the strategy.

Maybe offering the parents more of an insight into the children's likes and interests that they have while in the setting, as sometimes parents are unaware of something that they might enjoy. Based on our knowledge suggests books or activities to do with them at home that both reflect their interest but that would also develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

This can be done in everyday life, examples of this are reading books to children at home, startting off small with maybe one word per page books, with letters or numbers.

Songs are another great way for children to learn numeracy and literacy. An example of this can be the 5 little ducks, it helps teach children numbers 1 to 5 while also teaching them to count down form 5 to 0.

In my room we like to tell the parents which songs/book their children are intersted in that week. Some parents have then brought in the books their children like to read at home so that we can read it to them and all their friends while in Creche. they also tell us which songs the love at the moment to.

I love reading about the "Listening bear" and all the ideas of how to encourage parents to support their children's literacy and numeracy skills.

In order to support the professional practice of early years educators, childminders and teachers, there needs to be a good communication foundation in place; nothing will work if there is no communication. This can be done in a number of ways, from small conversations in the morning to having weekly/monthly meetings in place to discuss necessary iteams, eg if something is not working and they need to identify why and how to fix it.

In my setting we have daily morning meetings at 8:30am one person from each room will come to the halla with their room notes books and management will pass on messages about what will be happening that day or just to have a general chat about what happend the previous days. Example on Thursady there was an emergency one of the microwaves went on fire at sleep time so for a lot of the staff it was their first time dealing with that drill at that time (I should add that everything was ok it was a very small fire and was out just as fast as it started) On friday morning at the meeting, management thanked that staff for acting so fast and safely.

The morning meetings also offer the staff an opportunity to aks questions and share ideas with the other room. Example I was making sensory bottles for my room and I asked if any other room would like some and if they had any ideas on how to make them more engaging for the children.

Another way is by management providing further training to their staff to help the progress further with the knowledge.
