Assessments should be meaningful to you as the teacher but also to the learner. After the assessment you should provide feedback in a timely manner so students know what to improve upon. I liked the "Act, Plan, Assess, Analyze" for student improvement.

I also really liked the different assessments that were shared and linked into the presentation.

There should be various ways when it comes to assessing students on topics, and shouldn't and doesn't need to always be paper and pencil. Assessment should have meaning and purpose and the goal of what you want the children to learn and be able to accomplish is crucial to.

My biggest takeaway is there are many different forms of assessment, especially formative assessments. I personally prefer gathering data from multiple formative assessments rather than summative assessments. This way you can see if they are grasping the concept, if they need more instruction time, how they are progressing, and what the next steps are. Some (probably most) students get anxious with bigger tests, especially state mandated tests like PSSA's. Formative tests are done in many ways, most of which the students don't even know they're being assessed!

My biggest takeaway is that assessment can come in different forms but its main purpose should be to monitor learning. When we assess, it should inform our instruction so that we can better support our students learning.

My key takeaway from your presentation was how assessments are always ongoing. They should be used to guide teachers in their instruction, collect data on gaps for students, and set students up for success. We need to remember that assessments are not just a grade or some test to be given - they need to set our kids up for success.

They must be valid and give the teacher some sort of feedback as to how the students are learning the material!

We should be able to monitor learning effectively and give students tasks to complete that make sense to them and are enjoyable.
