I went in April and November 2019. He lived in the outskirts of Miami, but we still visited many places like Key Biscayne, South Pointe Park, Hollywood Beach, Wynwood Walls (which is a neighborhood full of graffiti), the Miami Design District, Miami Beach, Brickell (which is the financial area of Downtown), Little Italy, Coral Gabbles.... I also got to experience Thanksgiving, which I loved, along with the food. Days before Thanksgiving, I volunteered to prepare food and decorations so that homeless people in Miami could also celebrate Thanksgiving in a safe and welcoming space. I had never been and I really wanted to go. He had been but when he was younger, so he really wanted to go back. What I liked the most is that we walked everywhere, which allowed us to see many places even if it was just passing by. The trip took two days and we stopped by a few places like Lourdes and Bordeaux to take advantage of the journey. The cruise started in Aruba. We had one day to spend on each island and at night we traveled from one island to another. I remember loving the feeling of going to sleep in one place and waking up the next morning in another. The ship was very big (plus I was very short and everything seemed gigantic to me) and had a lot of things to do, but we always preferred to explore the islands rather than stay on the ship, of course. After the dinners there was always a show that I loved because they sang and danced a lot of songs. There was one day on an island where we wanted to go to a beach that only the locals knew, but there was a tropical storm and we almost got stranded with the car because it was an SUV and the roof came off from the wind. We almost didn't make it to the cruise ship in time, but in the end everything went well. We did things like sailing on a catamaran, swimming with giant turtles, snorkeling, eating lots of local food, etc. I am aware that there are many details of that trip that I have forgotten, but I remember many of them and all with special fondness. We rented a house very close to the beach and an area that was full of bars and had a lot of young people. Our plan was to go all day to the beach with food and at night to party. It was our first trip together but we were very good at living together and we bonded a lot. One of them could not come in the end and another one arrived a little later because she was a monitor at a camp in the United States, but we were there for several days, so she enjoyed it just the same. The last day of the trip and after sleeping so little and going out every night, I ended up with angina and fever, but I did not have time to go to the doctor.... We went with two Italian friends of ours and took the opportunity to visit their cities. We started in Bologna (where one of our friends is from); then we went to Milano Marittima where her grandmother had a house. It was a little seaside town with lots of pine trees as well as beautiful beaches and lots of young people; later we spent a day in Florence visiting its iconic sites; from there we spent a day in the car to go to Naples (where the other one of our friends is from). We visited the Spanish quarter, where Maradona lived, a castle from where you could see Vesuvius... it was all beautiful. This time we did not go through Rome because we had already been there and otherwise the trip would be too long and expensive; then we went to Amalfi and Salerno (also on the Amalfi Coast). One day we rented a pedal boat and went to many caves and coves that were only accessible by sea. My boyfriend and I took a plane to Porto and from there we started walking. The first week was just the two of us, although we met a lot of very interesting people with whom we were sharing the stages. The second week we joined a group of people we knew who were starting the Camino a little further on. I learned to keep going even though my whole body hurt and that every effort has its reward.
